Invisible Disability Poetry

Disability offers a wide variety of challenges for anyone. Writing from a disabled point of view helps not only the disabled person to voice their wants and needs, but the non-disabled person the opportunity to learn how to live with and support the disabled.

Each session will contain poems written from the member's experience with invisible disability and there will be a critique of the story containing both positive feedback and areas that might be improved. There will be a section dedicated to the various devices used in writing from a disabled point of view.

What you will learn:

  • How to take something from your life and create a story,
  • How to critique a story,
  • How to keep author and story integrity while talking from personal experience,
  • How to revise and perfect a story,
  • The elements of good writing.
